What we do to make and keep our web content accessible

We have created the site and community platform to make it understandable, usable and accessible for all users, including yourself.

We have done this both in alignment to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA standards and based on core user journeys through usability testing with users with a wide range of needs, assistive technologies and approaches.

Since launching our new website at the start of April 2023, we are aware we have some issues that have arisen (accessibility and usability) in the transfer from staging to live site. We are working to remediate these issues, and currently we expect these all to be completed by the 28th April. This includes aspects of our accessibility widgets and their functionality. We also understand that websites can change with time, and that new issues will likely arise. We take this extremely seriously. Please do report any issues that you notice which limit either your access to or enjoyment of the website through our accessibility form at the bottom of the page.

This work takes many forms. It started with co-creation and user input in the design stage, creating and testing content with users. We selected underlying technology solutions and a development team with functionality, suitable skills and equal commitment to digital accessibility and equity. Throughout the process we helped them deliver to their commitment. We also audit and test the site several times pre-release.

As the website and platform evolve, we will keep to our principles and practices of digital accessibility and inclusive usability through;

  • Hiring and training people that care as deeply as we do about digital equality, including staff that have a broad range of lived experiences of disability and adaptive or assistive technology skills
  • Training all content creators at Open Inclusion
  • Checking updates from underlying technology solution providers that can impact accessibility
  • Fixing any bugs or difficulties reported by users
  • Periodic user testing of the site and platform with people who are native users of a range of assistive technologies and have a range of considerations, needs and preferences in how they perceive, process and interact with content
  • Periodic audits of the site and platform

Current status

The new website and platform were launched March 2023. Despite testing as much of the site as possible we may find some unexpected accessibility issues just post launch. Please do share any issues you have with us.

Browser compatibility

The Open Inclusion website is compatible with most major Internet browsers including Chrome, FireFox, and Safari. It may not perform optimally on Internet Explorer and older browser versions.

Help us improve

Please share any opportunities for improvement on the website or in any other communication you have received from us that are difficult for you to perceive, understand or interact with easily, as you need or prefer.

If anything works particularly well for you we would welcome knowing about that also so we can make sure we protect and reuse that approach in the future.
